The Board of Directors
Meet the board. We are your neighbors! SWBCDC is deeply rooted in the Hyde Park and Roslindale communities, with an 15-member Board that consists entirely of community residents and is representative of the diversity of our neighborhoods. The election of new board members occurs at SWBCDC's annual meeting each fall. Any community resident or business owner interested in serving on the board should contact SWBCDC and request nomination papers.
Diana J. Kelly
Board chair Diana Kelly moved to Hyde Park from Mission Hill in July 2002. She is part owner of Maloney Properties, a company that manages over 6,000 units of resident-controlled and community-sponsored housing in Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island. Diana has been a regional property manager at Maloney Properties since September 1982, and presently oversees on-site property management operations at low- and mixed-income apartment complexes in Roxbury, the South End and Newport, RI. Diana is a graduate of Simmons College and has managed property for MB Management Corporation, the Commonwealth of Mass. (commercial real estate office), Tenants' Development Corporation and Greater Boston Community Development. She currently serves as the President of the Affordable Housing Management Training Foundation and has previously served on the Board of Directors of United South End Settlements; the Women's Institute for Housing and Economic Development; and Casa Myrna Vasquez. Diana is a founding member of the New England Black Property Managers Forum.
Mimi Turchinetz
Vice Chair Mimi Turchinetz has a B.A. from UMass Amherst and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law. Mimi is a long-time activist, and community and political organizer. She currently administers the Living Wage Division for the City of Boston, and directs the Mayor's Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign, which is committed to economic empowerment and enfranchisement of the low and moderate-income neighborhoods of Boston. Mimi owns a home in Hyde Park where she lives with her two cats.
Rob Corley
Clerk Rob graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and is currently the Exceutive Director of a CDC on the South Shore of Boston. Rob also is a licensed Builder and Real Estate Broker who works part-time for a family owned real estate corporation located in Hyde Park. Born in Ireland, Rob became a US citizen at the age of 12 and has lived and owned property in the Hyde Park/West Roxbury area for most of his life. He is dedicated both through his work and as a neighbor to the development of safe affordable housing and neighborhoods.
Vic Carrara
A life-long resident of Hyde Park, Vic lives in Readville with his wife, two daughters, and son. Vic has been a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 67 for seventeen years, and currently serves as regional representative of the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. As a working carpenter and as a representative of the Carpenter's Union, Vic has seen first hand the benefits, such as quality housing and job opportunities, that CDCs have provided to their respective communities. Vic serves as chair of SWBCDC's Development Committee.
Seth Grady
Seth has a broad professional background that includes transportation planning, financial analysis, real estate development and general business management, and an educational background in engineering and business. As a consultant, he has worked on planning and implementing major infrastructure development projects throughout the world, but mainly in Latin America. Over the last four years, he has been responsible for running a growing manufacturing company. He grew up in Boston and currently resides in Roslindale with his wife, Veronica, daughter, Gabriela, and newborn baby.
Kevin Hayden
A life-long resident of Boston, Kevin graduated from Dartmouth College in 1990, and received a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1995. Kevin served as assistant law clerk for the honorable Joyce London Alexander, Chief Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court in Boston and subsequently was Chief of the Safe Neighborhood Initiative Unit for the Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley's Office. He is a founding partner of Hayden Champion, a Boston law firm. Kevin has served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Blue Hill Avenue Boys and Girls Club, and been a guest speaker at a number of youth programs including the Jubilee Christian Church (formerly New Covenant) in Mattapan, where he is an active member who serves regularly in ministry. Kevin lives in Roslindale with his wife, Michelle, and their two children.
Dean Lampros
Originally from Lynn, Dean has lived in Hyde Park for eight years. Dean works for the New England Foundation for the Arts and has a background in historic preservation. He previously worked at the Boston University School of Theology. He is a member of as Greek music band and been active in efforts to preserve same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.
Sarah Lamitie
Sarah is the CRA Associate and Vice President of Boston Private Bank and Trust Company, a full service commercial bank headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with assets of $2.9 billion. The Bank's CRA programs focus on meeting the banking needs of individuals, businesses, government entities and non-profit organizations in the Greater Boston area. Ms. Lamitie is co-chair of the Expanding Opportunities Committee of the Commonwealth Housing Task Force and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Hyde-Jackson Square Main Street Program. She serves on the Banking Services Committee of the Massachusetts Community and Banking Council,. Prior to joining Boston Private Bank, Sarah was a Senior Project Manager at the Boston Housing Authority, and was involved in the implementation of two HOPE VI grants. Sarah lives in Roslindale with her husband Doug Matthews, and their two children.
Matt Lawlor
President Matt, his wife Ann-Marie, and their two children have lived in Roslindale since 2000. Matt is a graduate of Amherst College and holds both a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from North Carolina (Chapel Hill), and a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. Matt is an attorney in the real estate and land use group of the law firm of Robinson and Cole in Boston.
Luis Mancebo
Luis Mancebo is among the newest members of the CDC’s board, having joined in December 2008. Luis is Fiscal Director of the DDS Division at the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, and brings over twenty years experience in accounting and familiarity with administration for a variety of businesses to his volunteer work with Southwest Boston CDC. Luis and his wife Neri live in Hyde Park, where they raised their three children, and are active parishioners at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale. Luis’s expression of interest in joining the Board captured the goals of many Board members simply and eloquently—“to represent my community, working together for better neighborhoods.”
Mario Mejia
Mario Mejia and his wife Mildred grew up in and currently live in Hyde Park. Mario is the youngest and first Latino Business Representative and Organizer ever hired by the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. He has been a Union member since 2005. He is a licensed carpenter, and has worked building custom homes and affordable housing for the past ten years. Mario currently is also a student at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Construction Management.
For the past six years, Mario’s work as a Union Representative for the Regional Council of Carpenters has involved identifying and putting an end to violations by unscrupulous contractors in the construction industry. Mario works closely with government agencies to bring justice to the construction industry and to increase market share for his Union.
Mario and his family have been members of Lion of Judah Church since its founding in 1983—a predominantly Latino evangelical 1,200-member Church located in Roxbury. In his spare time, Mario enjoys spending time with his wife, family and friends, and traveling.
Marcia Thornhill
Marcia Thornhill has been a resident of the Hyde Park, Readville neighborhood for the past 7 years. Ms. Thornhill joined Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation in Roxbury 16 years ago as a Project Manager. Her efforts on projects such as Palladio Hall and the Dartmouth Hotel, both major development projects in Dudley Square are a major factor in the success Nuestra has achieved these last 16 years. In 2002, Ms. Thornhill was named Director of Nuestra’s growing Real Estate Development Department. In this position, Marcia has overseen acquisition, rehabilitation and construction of several hundred units of affordable housing and commercial space, cultivating respect for Nuestra exponentially along the way. She continues to lead the Real Estate Development Department.
Ms. Thornhill has been a member of the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporation’s Housing Peer-Advisory Committee for four years. She was also recently elected to the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporation’s Board of Directors. In addition, she co-chairs Nuestra’s Real Estate Development Committee and has participated in numerous neighborhood community group meetings over the last 16 years.
Ms. Thornhill has a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Tufts University and Bachelors degree in Financial Management from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.
Bob Vance
Bob has lived in Hyde Park for most of his life. He became involved in politics at an early age with busing in Boston during the mid-70's. He is an advocate for the Human Rights Campaign, active for the Greater Boston Food Bank and local chapters and has been President of the Fairmount Hill Neighborhood Association for the last four years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the newly formed "02136" Committee. He is very excited about revitalization projects involving Hyde Park business and the Neponset River. Bob is currently employed as an IT Business System Analyst.
